It may not be entirely correct, but was taken from information on Atheros site

NOTE: this is not a list of supported chipsets, it's just an effort to collect all related information in one place

MAC Chips

AR5210 (Crete)

AR5210 -- part of the AR5000 chipset
  • Supports a mode only (actually it was the first complete 802.11a solution)
  • Support for WEP in hardware.
  • Support for X2 (turbo) mode -> doubled data rates using 2 channels in parallel (part of SuperAG)
  • Comes with RF5110 chip
  • It's deprecated now, not much documentation out there
  • You can find some infos about AR5210 internals on an Atheros presentation

AR5211 (Oahu)

AR5211 -- part of the AR5001A and AR5001X chipsets
  • Support a/b/g (only OFDM) modes
  • Support for X2 mode as AR5210
  • Support for DFS/TPC
  • Supports SmartSelect (?)
  • Support for sleep modes
  • Support AES/OCB (WRAP) and WEP hardware encryption
  • Support for Priority based QoS (WME)
  • Comes with RF5111 chip for a operation or RF5111 + RF2111 for a/b/g (only OFDM) operation
  • You can find some infos about AR5211 internals on a Atheros presentation

AR5212 (Venice)

AR5212 -- part of the AR5001G/X and AR5002G/X chipsets
  • Support for a/b/g modes
  • Support for DFS/TPC
  • Support for sleep modes
  • Support AES (OCB and CCM), TKIP and WEP hardware encryption
  • Support for draft 802.11e, h, and j standards
  • Support for Priority based QoS (WME) EDCF with 12 (?) Priority Queues

  • Comes with RF5111/RF5112 for a/b/g operation and RF2111/RF2112 for b/g operation

AR5213 (Hainan)

AR5213 -- part of the AR5004G and AR5004X chipsets
  • Support for a/b/g modes

AR5214

AR5214 -- probably part of the AR5005 chipset, but I can't find any reference to it.
  • Although not explicitly mentioned in the sources, this chipset is supported by the code from trunk.
No support for this chipset in madwifi-old.
